Welcome to the third blog in our Amazon Web Services (AWS) series, today we will be discussing security in the cloud. I know there is a lot of controversy surrounding placing data in the cloud and whether or not it’s safe, so today we’re going to dive right in and hopefully eliminate a lot of the worries you might have.
As you contemplate making the switch over to cloud infrastructure, one of the biggest concerns is the security of your data. AWS has implemented very durable protection to ensure the infrastructure protects your data. All of your sensitive and important data stored in AWS data centers are highly secure; the data centers themselves are equipped with fire detection and suppression, power failure measures and climate and temperature controls. This level of security is available for your organization and probably a lot more secure than the facility in which your data center is currently housed.
In addition to keeping your data safe, AWS also meets your organization’s compliance requirements when keeping client data in the cloud. For your organization, this level of security means that you have very little to be concerned about. Here are a few of the certifications and compliances you get with AWS: DoD SRG, FedRAMP, FIPS, IRAP, ISO 9001, ISO 27001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, PCI DSS Level 1, SOC 1: Audit control reports, SOC 2: Compliance controls report, SOC 3: general controls report.
With all of this security and compliance built into AWS, your organization can cut costs by implementing this solution and using AWS data centers. Usually, to implement this level of security will cost you hundreds of thousands of dollars which makes it unrealistic for most small and medium sized organizations to implement at all. Leveraging AWS security will allow any organization to maintain the highest level of security without having to pay thousands of dollars to hire staff and manage your own facility.
Finally, one of the most important features of AWS cloud storage is the ability to scale. In today’s ever-changing environment, you as a business-user or decision maker needs to know that your security can also scale as your organization grows or shrinks in size. AWS security scales as your AWS cloud usage scales, so if you increase your instances in AWS, the security for your instances also increases.
Whether you’re the largest online retailer or the new start-up sensation that everyone is talking about, you can rest assured knowing your data is safe in AWS.
