Definiteness of Purpose

Many years ago I read a book or listened to the tape of a book called "Think and Grow Rich" by Napoleon Hill.  It is a book written in the 1930’s.   I discovered the book and Hill listening to tapes by Anthony Robbins where he interviewed authors of his favourite books.  So, although Napoleon Hill was dead, he had recorded many interview so Robbins took clips from these interviews and fabricated an interview.  It was fabulous and so I got the book tape and listen to it in my car as during my commute.  Hill was talking about the Law of Attraction in his own way.  One of the things he emphasized in his own quaint accent was "Definiteness of Purpose".

The message was the things we give our attention, energy and focus are the things we attract to our life.  I recall at the time there was a lot of upheaval in my life and I have some concerns about my long term prospects.  I realized that my income was completely determined by my time and I needed to change that.  I therefore created a definite purpose without really knowing how I would get from there from where I was currently.

Well, circumstances changed dramatically for me and I was able to accomplish my goal over the next fifteen years.  Looking back I realize that was a real turning point.  As time went on I was able to attract more opportunity to accomplish my purpose.

So recommend that we all have a definite purpose in our life, write it down and allow it to happen.  As things happen to align with your purpose, celebrate them and continue on the journey.  If doubts creep in, remember "lots can happen" and celebrate how the journey has gone so far.

The book or tape of "Think and Grow Rich" is really unusual but contains some good lessons for life.  I was certainly ready at the time and the teacher came.

Really sound advice about only vibrating positive energy. I also think that those vibrations will come back.
I think one need to be very careful not to even pay attention to the negative energy. I think the idea would be to just ignore it and think positive things. Like today, somebody said a bad day on the golf course is still a good day because you know you are learning something and having fun.

I don’t know if there is any science to it other than where effort is applied results will develop. i.e. you reap what you sow.
In his 2nd book “Lila” Robert Pirsig says, “If you take all this karmic garbage and make yourself feel better by passing it on to others that’s normal. That’s the way the world works. But if you manage to absorb it and not pass it on, that’s the highest moral conduct of all. That really advances everything, not just you. The whole world. If you look at the lives of some of the great moral figures of history – Christ, Lincoln, Gandhi, and others – you’ll see that that’s what they were really involved in, the cleansing of the world through the absorption of karmic garbage. They didn’t pass it on Their followers sometimes did, but they didn’t.”
I think this means, if I project negative thought, actions, feelings & attitudes out to the world, that’s bad. If I project positive, healing thought, actions, feelings & attitudes that’s good.
If the world (the people & organizations that I come in contact with), if that world gives out negative thoughts, actions, feelings & attitudes I can absorb them or I can pass them on to others. If I choose to pass on only positive thoughts, actions, feelings & attitudes and if I keep all the negative ones for myself then the world becomes a better place. And that’s good for the world which will ultimately be good for me in the long term although there may be sort term pain for me.
It is very hard to do, keeping all the anger & sarcasm & bitterness in side and only showing people the positive healthy thoughts, actions, feelings & attitudes.
Maybe think in terms of, “What you receive, you need to filter & only give what you like to receive .” Or more simply : Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
    …so simple & yet quite difficult…
