A big challenge in the IT business is the relationship with the rest of the business. I have always suggested to IT people that they consider their view of the people in the personnel department. Likely the rest of the business may view you the same way.
So what do you do to improve the situation? I suggest that the problem is that they view the world from quite a different perspective and we could realize this and attempt to enter that world as opposed to being critical. IT is such a challenging world that just grasping what is going on in your world is difficult. To also go outside that world and see things from a different perspective is quite a challenge. My advice is to put yourself in their shoes for a while to get an insight on how they may have difficulty with you and your technology.
