Viper and DB2

So today the marketing blitz has started on the next version of DB2 code named Viper.  Some mixed views in the IT Business coverage today. A snippet from the article was:

“With our XML capabilities, security capabilities
and other features we believe we will have a significant lead on our
competition,” Steven Miller, the company’s worldwide manager of
database marketing, said this week.

“It gives us a very
strong platform to stand on when we talk about the business value it
will give to our customers and for our partners.”

With all of these things, the proof is in the pudding.  Hats off to IBM for letting it out to the general public for review.

Interesting though, in the article they talk about DB2 playing catchup with Oracle and SQL Server.  But what about Teradata???

The one thing that is interesting is that both Oracle and IBM are now evangelizing the one version of the truth, moving the OLTP and OLAP into the Data Warehouse.
